I am on benefits and want to do refresher courses I need to know how much courses are and when they will be available. I am interested in book-keeping and business management. thank-you.

Answer by voluntary user(s)

You want to try and get some work-related experience in the area of your expertise - first and foremost.
In the interim period, I suggest that you take a refresher course in Excel . Then later, consider a business management course with the Open Univesity.

i have a friend who lives in egypt but will b moving to england and would like to study for a new career what does he need to do and what r the costs can he get help funding the courses
we cannot seem to het any information to help take the steps needed can u help please

Answer by voluntary user(s)

I doubt he'll get any funding. there are normally residency requirements (as in living here for x amount of time before studying). That said, the OU is quite cheap. It really depends what he wants to do really, but admittance is open to all.

Can you tell me how I can convert my Dip HE in Nursing into a Nursing Degree with the OU? I saw it mentioned in the Nursing Times.

Answer by Open University Admin

Hi,

The BSc (Hons) in Nursing Practice is a non-qualifying degree for holders of a Diploma of Higher Education in Nursing, awarded by a recognised UK degree awarding body, who wish to ‘top-up’ their existing 240 points at HE level (with a minimum of 120 points at level 2) to the Nursing Practice degree. To achieve the degree students must complete a further 120 points of level 3 study from a specified list of Open University courses.

Process:
1. Choose the degree or diploma that suits you.

2. On the website, apply for the course.

Let us know if we can help you further.

Regards
Team, Open University UK.

Answer by voluntary user(s)

As a member of OU staff I can confirm that you CANNOT obtain a student visa for study with the OU as we are a part-time distance learning organisation. For correct advice please email general-enquiries@open.ac.uk

I am looking at studying through the open university and I am a UK citizen and passport holder. However I do not reside in the UK anymore as I live in New Zealand. Would I qualify for the normal fees or would I be classed as an International student?? Any help with this question would be great! Thanks

Answer by voluntary user(s)

If you have emigrated and intend to live in NZ then you would need to pay the overseas price. There is also a limit on the courses you can study as NZ is outside the OU study area. You can study nearly any course if you have a BFPO address or work in the embassy. Being a UK citizen doesn't automatically entitle you to the UK fee as its given to students who are contributing to the UK economy.

I have an Open University BSc degree and wonder if it is of use in gaining entry or credit towards qualifying and working as a Chartered Surveyer in Scotland. I think Paisley Univ. is nearest place for me to study. I am 52 now so age might be a problem?

Answer by voluntary user(s)

Credit Transfer can vary, it depends on the course you wish to do and the amount of credit the course actually allows you to complete. You would need to speak to your desired University to advise what they can accept as it is down to them.

Subject: Course suggestion for journalism- Posted December 16, 2007 8:41 am
Email: talzick [at] hotmail [dot] com

Christopher

I'm 21 and living in Scotland. Last year I finished my BA in Risk Management but it wasn't a course I was actually interested in.

I would like to start another course with a view to work within the writing side of journalism. I've been looking at the Open University courses and there seems to be several around the english language and creative writing but I'm not really sure which would be a better choice.

Any advice greatly appreciated.
