Subject: MA in correspondence - Posted May 5, 2008 2:18 am
Email: shobhasubramanyam [at] yahoo [dot] com

mahi

Hi!!
im from india and would like to do my MA from the UK University.
is it like i can do my Correspondence in MA from this university.
If so what is the criteria and what are the entrance exams. im right now finishing my BCA.

Thank you,

Answer by voluntary user(s)

Open univeristy is a correspondence only university. Most of the courses are only open to students resident in particular countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Channel Islands, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Isle of Man, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.
But there are some ocurses that students from any country can study.
Also bear in mind that if you are not eligible to pay UK resident fees, your course fee will be substantially higher and quite expensive.
In terms of qualification, you dont have to have previous qulaifications to start a course. The university tries to increase access to all adults.
Which subject do you want to do your MA in? From what I know, OU does not offer degree or post-grad degress to Indian Residents. Why don't you check teh The Times University Guide for good uni's to apply to for attendance in person?

Im currently a student in the Open University of Kuwait and moving to the states is there a way i can transfer my credits and study long distance?

Answer by voluntary user(s)

The full range of courses is not available to US residents. The full range of OU courses is only for EU residents. OU does recognise transfers of credits in certain circumstances, but you may find that the course you want to do is not available to you through OU. You can transfer credits to OU from other higher education institutions - check the OU Credit Transfer Website for the details.

Subject: Construction Management Or similar Degree - Posted April 30, 2008 2:43 pm
Email: dave-keeb [at] hotmail [dot] com

David

My name is Dave and i live in Florida. I have worked in the building industry in the U.K for 16 years and would like to obtain a degree in Construction Management or similar. Is this possible to do from Florida and how much would the course cost

Answer by voluntary user(s)

It depends where you ar currently resident Dave. Only certain courses are available to US residents and I don't think that construction is one of them: check here: http://www3.open.ac.uk/courses/countries/USA.shtm. If you are a UK resident you can take any course, but a degree in construction management is not offered.

Can you tell me how I can convert my Dip HE in Nursing into a Nursing Degree with the OU? I saw it mentioned in the Nursing Times.

Answer by Open University Admin

Hi,

The BSc (Hons) in Nursing Practice is a non-qualifying degree for holders of a Diploma of Higher Education in Nursing, awarded by a recognised UK degree awarding body, who wish to ‘top-up’ their existing 240 points at HE level (with a minimum of 120 points at level 2) to the Nursing Practice degree. To achieve the degree students must complete a further 120 points of level 3 study from a specified list of Open University courses.

Subject: Foreign Language Diplomas - Posted February 17, 2008 4:39 pm
Email: 11115 [at] tiscali [dot] it

maria bellani

Hello, I'd like to know what recognitions I'll gain if I'm awarded any of the language diplomas (German, French, Spanish) from the Open University and to which European level (A1 - A2, B1 - B2, C1 - C2) they correspond. For example will I be able to teach any of those languages? what can I do with a language diploma and what does it demonstrate?

Thank you for any answer.

Answer by Open University Admin

Hi Maria,

The language diploma from the Open university UK does not correspond to any equvalents in Europe. This diploma is in place for students who want a language qualification either in its own right or as a course between your existing language degrees like Bachelor of Arts (BA) honours or BA honours modern language studies or other degrees that include that language as a course.

A language diploma from the Open University will teach you:
a. history of language, how the language is used as a tool in the global marketplace and its contemporary usage.

b. Origins and roots of the language for you to know the language in semantic terms.

c. It will improve your communications skills in that language and make you capable of individualistic thinking in that language.

Prospects: Skills learnt in this diploma will be useful in teaching, admin, business and media. You can even get a job in one of these fields related to your chosen language if you're good.

You can attain more information at: http://www3.open.ac.uk/courses/bin/p12.dll?Q07D54

Hope this helps.
